C. The 3D world

-Generalities

This world is geometrical, so that the 20 instruments (and the groups) will be dispatched regularly.

We have been looking for the best shapes and the best way to put them in the space, that could allow us to have one point in the middle where the 20 instruments will be heard with the same volume.

We also had to think to the esthetical aspect, and look for a world that would be beautiful, with colours, so that the user will be able to enjoy in the in same time music and image.

We finally chose the colors in relation to the natural groups; for instance, the 4 jazz instruments with different blues, the classical with reds and so on. (See Picture 4, next page)

-Description

This world is located in a black space. We have a general shape formed by 20 grouped tetrahedrons. We actually see their sides: the tetrahedrons are empty of matter. The tetrahedrons’ colors have been chosen according to the style that is played in.

We know that a tetrahedron has 4 vertexes, so 4 instruments; each vertex and the 3 half straight- lines that starts from it have the same color.. (See Picture 2 and Picture 3, next page)

(Picture 2) (Picture 3): unfortunately, if you want to see them, you will have to contact Pierre, visit him so that he qill show you the "paper" version"!!!

The half straight-lines are one instrument. Picture 2 shows how looks one instrument. In Picture 3, you can see it with 2 other instruments of one tetrahedron. The 4th instrument is not shown to keep the pictur readable.

This way it will be easy for the user to recognize an instrument in the mixed groups : For instance if he sees 2 blues, 1 red and 1 yellow, he will know that there is two jazz, one classical, and one african instruments.

In the center, there is a little grey "Planet":

this is where all the instruments sound together.
